Kindle doppelganger? The gang at Tech-On stumbled upon this little number at this week’s Tokyo’s Digital Publishing Fair, and unless our eyes deceive us, this snowflake’s the spitting image of Amazon’s e-book reader. It comes from Founder International, Inc., the Japanese unit of Chinese Peking University Founder Group Corp., and aesthetics aside, the screen comes from the same manufacturer ( E Ink Corporation) and even lets you insert a SIM card and download directly to the device. July 9th, 2009 admin No comments

Canon’s just unveiled its new augmented reality display in Chiba, Japan, and we have to say, we’re thinking about heading over there to check it out… and hopefully experience what it’s like to be eaten (virtually) by a T-Rex. Featuring 260 dinosaur specimens, the display makes us of a virtual reality viewer — one for each person roaming round the exhibit — putting the dinosaurs at a “distance” of about 5 meters. The exhibit will make use of various ..read more

Yakiniku Game Serves Guests With Fake Korean BBQ [Toys]

July 9th, 2009 admin No comments

Yakiniku or Korean BBQ restaurants are extremely popular in Japan, which is why Bandai has released a game that simulates the experience at home—minus the distractions of flavor, chewing and hunger satisfaction of course. Using a fake BBQ and fake food, players must be the first to successfully collect fully “grilled” plastic foodstuffs. So, it’s all the fun of grilling without the payoff. If only they would make a sweet dishwashing simulator followup.

Dragon Quest IX’s One Save Data Slot Explained! [Square Enix]

July 8th, 2009 admin No comments

According to the Dragon Quest IX DS case, the game only has one save slot . DQIX producer Ryutaro Ichimuar explains why. “Because the amount of freedom we give players is huge,” says Ichimura, “the data that needs to be saved is enormous.” Thus, it was difficult for Square Enix to create a save file and squeeze in a back-up save file in case the DS’s battery dies suddenly.

After a second run in with low, low, low prices on particular products at Dell Taiwan, Dell has shut down that country’s online store until it can sort things out.
